If your application for a license is denied for any reason, a notice of denial will be mailed to you. You must request a refund of the fees paid within 3 working days of receiving the notice of denial to have your monies refunded to you.

Scrap Processor

Any person, firm, company, partnership, association or corporation that operates a business that is engaged in the business of buying, selling, trading, receiving or dealing in vehicle parts, regulated or specially regulated scrap metal; or operating, carrying on, conducting or maintaining a scrap metal yard where vehicle parts, regulated or specially regulated scrap metal are gathered together and stored or kept for shipment, sale or transfer.

Secondhand Dealer

Any person, firm, company, partnership, association or corporation or their employee engaged in the business of buying, selling, trading, exchanging or otherwise dealing in secondhand merchandise of any sort or description, whether or not he or she deals in other goods and regardless of where goods are bought.

Shooting Gallery

Any person engaged in operating a shooting gallery, either with live ammunition, air or spring-propelled mechanism, or any electric eye in the city.

Solid Waste Decals

Any person, firm, or corporation doing work as a business in one of the following categories:

Covered Truck: A vehicle used for collection of industrial waste, demolition and construction waste, bulky waste or tree waste. Sideboards and tailgate must not have any openings covered with a canvas or similar cover.
Enclosed Truck: A vehicle used for collection of commercial trash and industrial solid waste but not garbage. Truck bed must be all steel, liquid-tight and totally enclosed.
Flat Bed Truck: A vehicle used for collection of tree waste only. The tree waste must be secured with chains, ropes or otherwise and no part of the load shall hang over the sides or drag from the rear.
Open Bed Truck: A vehicle used for collection of bulky waste. The truck bed must have sideboards and tailgate that effectively contains the bulky waste.
Packer Truck: A vehicle used for collection of residential trash, commercial garbage, commercial trash and industrial solid waste. The truck bed must be liquid-tight containing mechanical devices that convey solid waste into the main compartment of the body and compresses it.
Sewage Tank Truck: A vehicle used only for the collection and transportation of sewage not otherwise classified as a hazardous waste. Truck bed must be made of metal or fiberglass with a liquid-tight construction. All openings of the truck bed shall be kept closed except when waste is being deposited into or removed from the truck and shall effectively contain the solid waste.
Special Truck: A vehicle used for collection of hazardous waste and special waste as required and approved by the Health Department.
Trailer: A non self-propelled vehicle used only for the collection of salvage material such as paper and metal and, if approved by the Health Department, solid waste material. The trailer must be completely enclosed with doors.

Street and Sidewalk Vendors

“Sidewalk Vending” means engaging in the business of peddling, vending, selling, or displaying for sale any merchandise or food item, when both the vendor and the vendee are upon a public sidewalk or sidewalk area in the Central Business District.

“Street Vending” means engaging in the business of peddling, vending, selling, or displaying for sale any merchandise or food that occurs while the person travels by foot or any type of conveyance from house to house or place to place, or when such merchandise or food is presented from a vehicle, cart or stand outside the Central Business District.

Central Business District means that area of Wichita bounded by:

Lewis Street, the Arkansas River, Central Avenue and the elevated tracks, and;
Douglas Avenue from the Arkansas River to Seneca Street.

Swimming, Wading, or Spa Pools and Recreational Water Features

No person shall operate a regulated swimming pool, a wading pool, a regulated spa pool or other recreational water feature without a valid license issued by the City.
