LSD

LSD is most commonly referred to as Acid or Blotter Acid, and is classified as a Schedule I drug. Because very little pure product goes a long way, labs do not have to produce on a continual basis. One batch can supply the market needs for several months. As an example, one ounce of pure LSD is enough to produce 567,000 hits. At the retail level, LSD is generally available in liquid doses, on sugar cubes, toothpicks, very small tablets (microdots), thin gelatin squares (window pane), and paper (blotter paper). LSD will also begin to degrade when exposed to sunlight and is usually kept in a container for protection.

How is it ingested?

LSD is normally taken by placing a square or ticket of blotter paper on the tongue. The LSD is dissolved by the saliva and absorbed through the mucous membrane. This method of ingestion produces the most rapid effects. LSD can be mixed with liquids, consumed with foods, or added to pills or sugar cubes, and is readily absorbed by the gastrointestinal tract. Although LSD can be absorbed through the skin, it would require prolonged contact with a potent dose. LSD cannot be ingested by smoking.

What are some of the long-term effects of LSD use?

Flashbacks are a phenomenon experienced by LSD users. They occur after the effects of the drug have worn off and the user has returned to normal. Flashbacks are a spontaneous and fragmentary recurrence of a previous trip, and may occur weeks, months, or years after the last usage. Flashbacks may last for only a few seconds, or for a much longer period of time, and may be pleasurable or frightening.

A single dose, or hit of LSD blotter. Most hits of blotter range in size from 1/4" to 1/2" and sell for anywhere between $1.00 TO $10.00. On the street a "sheet" of blotter acid generally consists of 100 hits, and a "book" 1,000 hits.

What are the effects?

LSD is a powerful semisynthetic hallucinogenic drug. Users will normally feel the effects of the drug thirty to sixty minutes after ingestion. It may take up to twelve hours for the effects of the drug to wear off. The effects of an equivalent dose varies from person to person, and even from dose to dose for the same individual. An individuals metal state, surroundings, and dosage strength all play a role in the intensity of the high, and whether or not it will be a good trip or a bad trip. Physically, there is an increase in blood pressure, pulse rate, temperature and respiration. The pupils dilate and there is an increase in salivation. Mentally, there is a distortion of sensory perception, along with impaired judgment. The user may experience vivid hallucinations. Visual perception is often distorted, as well as the user's sense of distance and time.

Often times there is a sharp increase in the perception of sound and color. These two senses can become crossed to the point where color is heard and sound is seen. If the trip is bad, the user can experience extreme fear, anxiety and paranoia. In this state of mind the user is at risk of physical injury by reacting in a state of panic.

LSD being ingested via blotter paper on the tongue. Absorption of LSD in this manner produces an effect within 30 to 60 minutes. The effects generally last 5 to 12 hours. Although almost always taken by means of oral absorption, LSD can also be injected, absorbed through the skin or eye, or swallowed with food. LSD cannot be smoked.
