“The City of Wichita Environmental Services Department is very pleased that the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) has now provided easy access to inspection information on a new website for state food service establishments,” said Kay Johnson, Environmental Services Director.
The City’s Environmental Services Food Safety and Protection Division is contracted by KDHE to conduct these inspections in the City and throughout Sedgwick County. “Our department has provided the county with food inspection services for many years. We used to have a publicly displayed rating system for restaurants but discontinued it at KDHE’s request because it didn’t fit well with a new comprehensive inspection program that was instituted by KDHE. We did as they asked but there was a noticeable gap with regard to public awareness and an establishment’s compliance with the state’s food program. This gap is now filled with more complete information, as it is specific to the violation." stated Johnson.“This will be a great tool for us, the public and, of course, the media."
Citizens may reach the website here, http://www.ksfoodsafety.org/.
City staff is able to locally answer questions about the website and its use. Environmental Services will continue to take complaint information at (316) 268-8351 as in the past.
