1924
 c. 1920's - Chief Brownewell and men in dress uniform in front of Central Station. | Fire drills in local schools had also been advocated in the Underwriters report and every effort was made to comply. In June, 1924, Wichita Fire Officers volunteered to give instruction to school principals on how fire drills should be conducted. Teachers would be required to follow their students out of the building and call roll to make certain no one was left inside. While these simple drills are taken for granted today, and while most schools can be evacuated in less than three minutes, the school fire drills of 1924 were the response to the many disastrous school fires of that period.
