Plans for thirty-five new fire stations were adopted by City planners in September, 1956, in long-range plans that provided for city expansion.

October, 1956, saw Drill Master Tom McGaughey appointed Assistant Chief in place of retiring Assistant Chief A.L. Gray.

The practice of requiring practical examinations for each salary increase from fourth to first-class firefighter was discontinued as of December, 1956.

On January 11, 1956, the drill tower moved to No. 8 Station from No. 2 Station.
