Data Control
|
The other end of the Data Control System. Much of today's station routine revolves around the computer's ability to process information rapidly and concisely, as seen here with Lt. Bert Adamson sitting at one of Station #2's computer terminals possibly checking with Royce or Mona about a fire report.
The Data Control Section is lead by the Department's Chief Executive Officer James Nyberg (right center). Assisting him are the department's two data control specialists. Ramona Webb (left) and Royce Wathen (right). With them in this picture is Nancey Browning, the department's Office Receptionist (left center).
John Bode with Mona and Royce began the Data Control System as it is known today.
| Data Control has two full-time civilian employees. Their primary responsibility is to maintain and update the computerized systems: Uniform Fire Incident Reporting System (UFIRS); Kansas Fire Incident Reporting System (KFIRS); Fire Inspection Reporting and Evaluation System (FIRES); and Hydrant Inspection and Maintenance Systems (HIMS). KFIRS is an extension of the UFIRS system. All incidents are reported to the State Fire Marshal each month. A program to aid with future location of fire stations based on projected growth and fire demand was introduced by Data Control in the early eighties.
Typical statistics for the year of 1991 were 24,560 emergency alarms, building inspections totaling 15,891, and 7,700 hydrant inspections.
All of the computer systems produce monthly, quarterly, and annual reports. These reports are used by the Fire Chief, Fire Marshal, Chief Arson Investigator, and the Chief of Operations for long range planning and budget projections, as well as an overall progress evaluation tool.
