  • Sick Leave
    Upon appointment to the position of Firefigher, employees shall accrue sick leave at the rate of 6 days per year for the first five years of service. Beginning year six through year 15, sick leave will be accrued at the rate of 12 days per year. Beginning year sixteen of service, sick leave will be accrued at the rate of 14 days per year. Recruits do not accumulate sick leave until graduating from the training academy.

  • Paid Vacation
    10 (12 hr. days) of paid vacation days per year for the first 4 years. A gradual increase of days beginning the 5th year of employment. 4 Kelly Days per year.

  • Holiday Pay
    10 ( 12 hour days) plus 2 undesignated paid holidays per year.

  • Uniforms
    Fire Fighters are issued a full set of protective clothing and work uniforms their first year of employment. Subsequent years you are responsible for replacement of work uniforms but will be paid an annual uniform allowance.

  • Health Care Benefits
    The City participates liberally toward the premiums of both single and family health, prescription and vision care insurance.  Dental insurance is also available.

  • Credit Union
    Personal financial plans for checking and savings are offered.

  • Group Life Insurance
    A basic group, term policy is offered at two-times the annual salary for employees of the City of Wichita.  The option to purchase a supplemental life policy for up to six-times the annual salary is also available along with Additional Accidental Death and Dismemberment coverage.

  • Job Related Injury Leave
    On-the-job- injury leave provides for up to 90 consecutive days at full pay. Accrued sick and vacation leave can be used to supplement injury leave after 90 consecutive days.

  • Retirement
    You can retire after 20 years of service with 50% of final average salary, but cannot receive pay benefits until age 50. Maximum amount of retirement benefit is 75% of final average salary after 30 years of service.
