Diversion and Deferred Judgment Programs

The City Prosecutor's Office within the Law Department administers the City's diversion and deferred judgment programs. The programs are available for eligible first-time offenders. Eligible offenses include speeding, petit larceny, certain drug offenses, DUI, and domestic violence. The programs require that certain conditions are met, and upon doing so, the charges may be dismissed.

The City Prosecutor's Office is located on the 2nd floor of City Hall at 455 N. Main, Wichita, Kansas. Walk-in office hours are 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday. The phone number is (316) 268-4569.

In 1991, the City initiated a Domestic Violence (DV) Diversion program that mandates incarceration for a minimum of four hours. A next day appearance allows offenders to enter into a diversion program that includes extensive counseling on violent behavior. The Diversion Coordinator administers the DV diversion program.
