Prosecution examining a witness during a mock trial. One of the Department of Law's core functions is prosecuting offenders in Municipal Court. This is accomplished through a staff of seven, led by a Chief Prosecutor. In addition, the Chief Prosecutor provides legal counsel and opinions to the Police Department and assists in reviewing cases. The office prosecutes criminal, traffic, domestic violence and environmental cases in Municipal Court, as well as maintain office hours to assist citizens on a walk-in basis. In addition, prosecutors engage in case review prior to the beginning of the dockets. The City Prosecutor's Office is located on the 2nd Floor of City Hall at 455 N. Main, Wichita, Kansas. Office hours are 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Monday-Friday, except holidays. Walk-in hours are 8:00 - 9:00 AM Monday-Thursday and 4:00 - 5:00 PM Monday-Friday. The phone number is (316) 268-4569. Several diversion and deferred judgment programs are offered by the City Prosecutor's Office. These programs are available for eligible first-time offenders and require that certain conditions are met. A $25.00 application fee is required at the time the application is filed. Back to Top
