The Wichita Municipal Court is a limited jurisdiction court, authorized under City Ordinance, with jurisdiction of the City of Wichita. The Court has 5 Judges. The Court is responsible for parking citations; traffic infractions; non-traffic infractions such as Health, Fire, Central Inspection, and Storm Water violations; and misdemeanor traffic and criminal offenses including DUI and Domestic Violence. The Municipal Court of the City of Wichita is the largest and most established municipal court system in the State of Kansas. The fundamental purpose of the Municipal Court is to uphold the mandates of the U.S. Constitution, the Statutes of the State of Kansas, and the Ordinances of the City of Wichita.
Because the Municipal Court is, for so many citizens, their only contact with the judicial system, we, the dedicated professionals of the Court strive to serve the people of the community by upholding the law in an unbiased and impartial manner. By providing all citizens with equal access, regardless of their standing in the community, the Municipal Court is committed to facilitating the interests of justice and the needs of all citizens in a thorough and fair manner.
