Insurance, Tag, and Driver's License Violations

If you are cited for driving with No Proof of Insurance and can show proof that you had automobile liability insurance, or were covered by such insurance at the time the citation was issued, you can bring your citation to the Court Clerk's Office to have it dismissed. If you did not have such insurance at the time of the citation or you were charged with Knowingly Drive Without Insurance, you will be required to set the citation for court. You will be given thirty days (30) after your court appearance to show proof of a minimum of three months of liability insurance, prepaid. If you want to learn more about liability insurance, please visit Compulsory Auto Liability Insurance Facts.

If you receive a citation for No Driver's License in Possession and do not have a valid driver's license, you may request an extension of time to obtain one and provide proof to the Court Clerk's Office. If you are not able to get a license within the time given, you can set the citation for court. You will be given thirty (30) days after your first court appearance to obtain a license. Within that time, if you produce a valid driver's license or a letter from the Kansas Department of Motor Vehicles authorizing reinstatement of the license, the City Prosecutor may dismiss the charge.

If you receive a citation for Expired License Tag you may request an extension of time to obtain one. If you are not able to get a tag within the time given, you can set the citation for court. You will be given thirty (30) days after your first court appearance to obtain a tag. Within that time, if you produce proof of proper vehicle registration the City Prosecutor may dismiss the charge.
