Roofing Permits
If you are replacing your roof, here is some important information to keep in mind: All roofing contractors must be licensed to do business in the City of Wichita. Before signing a contract, check for the contractor’s City license number on the proposal/contract. To verify whether a contractor has the required license to work as a contractor in the City of Wichita, call (316) 268-4413. For any repairs or reroof applications over 400 square feet, a permit is required. If you have hired a contractor to do the work, the contractor is the one responsible for getting all permits and inspections. To verify whether your contractor has obtained the required permit for your residence, call (316) 268-4461. Beware of out-of-town contractors who might ask you to get the permit and allow them to do the work. The permit holder is responsible for code compliance. A reputable contractor will obtain the permits required to do the job and contact Central Inspection for the required inspection. It makes good sense to have a written contract specifying: what work will be done, who will pay for materials and when, that required permits and inspections will be obtained, and that upon payment of the contract, the contractor will provide a lien release.
