Wichita Art Museum

This parcel of land was acquired by the Board of Park Commissioners in 1926. For a number of years, the Museum was under the jurisdiction of the Board, by authorization of the City Commission. However, on January 1, 1952, management of the Museum was transferred to the Art Department of the University of Wichita. This arrangement continued until 1955, at which time the City Commission placed the operation of the Museum under the direction of a seven member Wichita Art Museum Board.
In 1997, the City Council established a tax-exempt 501 c (3) Board of Trustees and contracted with the Board to plan, manage and develop the museum.
