Address: 6232 E. 29th St. North District: District 1 Acres: acreage included in Chisholm Creek Park General Information The Great Plains Nature Center represents a joint venture between the United States Department of Interior, Fish and Wildlife Services; the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks; and the City of Wichita. This 22,000 sq. ft. nature center will provide residents and visitors with a place to learn about natural resources and interact with the wildlife and habitats of the great plains region. This facility includes a 200-seat auditorium designed for public education and 6,400 sq. ft. of interior space devoted to state-of-the-art interpretive exhibits including: full scale prairie dioramas, a 320-cubic foot aquarium, children’s interactive centers, dramatic, hand-painted murals and computer generated graphics and illustrations. The Center is currently open for scheduled programs only. The Nature Center is linked to four miles of wheelchair accessible nature trails traversing tallgrass prairies, wetlands and riparian woodland.
