This park was acquired by the Board of Park Commissioners in 1971 with funds provided by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development under the "Parks in Cities" program. Land and Water Conservation Funds, provided by the Kansas Department of Wildlife & Parks and the National Park Service, have been used to develop this park.
