Activity Brochure Changes

  • Acrylic Painting Basics - Adult (#151110 & #151111 - page 25) will meet from 5:15 – 6:30pm instead of 4:45 – 6:00pm
  • Life Drawing Intermediate - Adult (#149706 & #149707 - page 25) has been canceled.
  • Life Drawing Beginning - Adult (#149704 - page 25) will be changed to 5:15 – 6:45pm, for 9 weeks beginning 1/17/12, & fee will be $36.00.
  • Life Drawing Beginning - Adult (#149705 - page 25) will be changed to 5:15 – 6:45pm, for 9 weeks beginning 3/27/12, & fee will be $36.00.
  • Instructional Classes

    Edgemoor Recreation Center offers a wide variety of recreation and education programming for all ages. Here is a small sample of what is being offered this Winter and Spring:

    Zumbatomic - Youth
    It's a rockin, high-energy fitness party! Packed with kid-friendly routines and awesome music like hip-hop, Reggaeton, Cumbia, and more. Designed exclusively for kids ages 8-12. (p. 10 in your Activity Guide)

    Tutoring in Mathematics - Youth
    It's as easy as 1-2-3. Brush up on math skills with fun games and activities. Practice division, multiplication, addition, and subtraction with a licensed USD259 teacher. (p. 13 in your Activity Guide)

    Self Defense Workshop - Youth and Adult
    For youths and adults ages 8 and above. Includes hand-to-hand contact, control techniques, pressure points, blocks, kicks and punches to enable people to protect themselves. (pages 11 and 20 in your Activity Guide)

    Prenatal Yoga - Adult
    For women in their 2nd and 3rd trimesters, this is a unique prenatal wellness class that combines all the benefits of yoga with special hip opening dance and birth ball moves. Dress comfortably and bring water. You will need two pillows, a light throw blanket and yoga mat. You are encouraged to visit your doctor before attending. (p. 18 in your Activity Guide)

    Zumba Toning - Adult
    The original Zumba dance-fitness class taken to the next level! Challenge yourself by using light weight toning sticks incorporated with Latin dance steps to build coordination and muscle endurance. (p. 19 in your Activity Guide)

    Understanding Property Insurance (One-day workshop) - Adult
    Don't wait until it's too late to understand how your policy works! Learn about risks, liability and protection to better ensure security for you and your family. (p. 22 in your Activity Guide)

    Zumba Gold - Active Adult
    Shake your tail feathers with Latin inspired dance Rhythms! Learn basic Cha-Cha, Merengue, Salsa, Cumbia and some belly dance moves. This course is designed specifically for the active older adult and those with special needs. (p. 26 in your Activity Guide)

    Youth Programs

    Grade School Fun Night
    Fridays, 6:00-7:30 PM (Begins August 19, 2011)
    Youth grades K-5 can participate in organized gym games, crafts, movies and more. Participants must be signed in and out by a parent. Cost is $6 for a 10 week session or $1 per visit.

    In-Service Camps
    During USD 259 district-wide inservice days and winter holiday break, 7:00 AM - 6:00 PM
    2011-2012 Schedule: October 13-14; December 22-23 and 27-30; January 3; February 21; March 15, 16 & March 19-23; April 30
    Youth ages 6-13 can sign up and participate in these licensed/supervised day camps. Cost is $15 per day - per camper. Program includes an AM & PM snack, organized activities including gym games, crafts, board games, movies and much more. Participant must bring their own lunch and drink. Enrollment is limited to 45 campers on a first-come first-serve basis. Special licensing paperwork is required and must be completed prior to the start of camp, so register directly at Edgemoor.

    Teen Night
    Mondays, 6:30-8:00 PM (Begins August 18, 2011)
    Teens in 6th - 12th grade can enjoy supervised pickup games of basketball. A student/picture ID is required to participate. Cost is $6 for a 10 week session or $1 per visit.

    Senior Programs

    Bridge
    Thursdays, 1:00 - 4:00 PM
    Experienced players meet every Thursday. Cards, score books and coffee are provided. FREE

    Pitch
    Fridays, 2:00 - 4:00 PM
    Beginners and experienced players meet every Friday. Cards, score books and coffee are provided. FREE

    Rental Information

    Rooms at Edgemoor Recreation Center are available for rental on Saturdays and Sundays from 8:00 am - 10:00 pm. Rentals are available in 4-hour periods and are taken on a first-come first-serve basis. Rental fee and deposit are required to reserve the facility.     No alcohol or smoking is allowed in any park facility.
