Instructional Classes

Linwood Recreation Center offers a wide variety of recreation and education programming for all ages. Check the current 2012 Winter Spring Activities Guide for all Recreation Center classes. Here is a small sample of what is being offered this Winter and Spring:

Cheerleading - Tot
Show team spirit while learning jumps and cheers. This class is a blast for tiny cheerleaders!  Ages 3-5 (p. 6 in your Activity Guide)

Valentine Workshop - Tot
Straight from the heart! This arts and crafts event will give each child the opportunity to create one-of-a-kind valentines for that special someone. Decorate and fill your own candy bag and make a special heart shaped project.  Ages 3-5 (p. 9 in your Activity Guide)

Discovery Theater - Tot
The ultimate imagination station! The story of the day will set the scene, but the fun theater games and activities will help the kids create the characters. A a parent visitation will be held the last day of class. No class on 4/5.  Ages 3-5 (p. 9 in your Activity Guide)

Princess Tea Party - Tot
Hear ye, hear ye! All princesses attending should arrive in their royal costumes and be prepared to create an elegant craft accessory along with participating in royal party games. They will then be served scrumptious finger sandwiches, punch and cupcakes at the royal tea. Princesses will be presented with a party keepsake and will live happily ever after. Ages 3-6 (p. 9 in your Activity Guide)

Acting Techniques and Improvisation - Youth
To be or not to be! There is no question that this beginning acting class will teach the basic techniques to help you develop your character through theater games, improvisation, mime, and skits. Children will learn in a friendly and encouraging atmosphere. A presentation for parents will be held the last day of class. Ages 6-10 (p. 14 in your Activity Guide)

Dance and Cheerleading - Youth
Show team spirit while learning jumps, cheers and stunts to help perfect your cheerleading skills. Ages 6-12 (p. 10 in your Activity Guide)

Hip Hop Dance - Youth
Get your groove on! Learn the latest dance moves and put them into routines. Emphas is put on body placement, dance combinations, rhythms and having fun. Ages 6+ (p. 10 in your Activity Guide)

Aerobics, Cardio Mix -Adult
Shake up your fitness routine with a mix of kickboxing, step, floor and boot camp exercises. You'll also work your abs and back to build strength and endurance. Cardio segments vary each class. (p. 16 in your Activity Guide)

Zumba Toning - Adult
The original Zumba dance-fitness class taken to the next level! Challenge yourself by using light weight toning sticks incorporated with Latin dance steps to build coordination and muscle endurance. (p. 19 in your Activity Guide)

Forever Fit - Active Adult
A low impact fitness class which promotes increased strength, range of movement, balance and flexibility with the use of hand-held weights and elastic tubing with handles. A chair is used for seated and/or standing support. (p. 26 in your Activity Guide)

Activities

In-Service Camps
During USD 259 district-wide inservice days and Spring Break, 7:00 AM - 6:00 PM
2012 Schedule: February 21; March 15, 16 & March 19-23; April 30
Youth ages 6-13 can sign up and participate in these licensed/supervised day camps. Cost is $15 per day - per camper. Program includes an AM & PM snack, organized activities including gym games, crafts, board games, movies and much more. Participant must bring their own lunch and drink. Enrollment is limited to 45 campers on a first-come first-serve basis. Special licensing paperwork is required and must be completed prior to the start of camp, so register directly at Linwood.

Open Gym Time:
Monday, Wednesday, Friday, 9:00 AM - 12:00 noon
Adults may come to walk in our climate controlled environment.

After School Playground K - 8th grade
Mondays-Fridays, 3:30 - 5:30 PM (when school is in regular session)
Youth can enjoy gym activities after school. Cost is $10 for the semester or $1 per visit.

Rental Opportunities

Rooms at Linwood Recreation Center are available for rental in 4-hour periods on Saturday 8:00 am - 4:00 pm and Sunday 8:00 am - 10:00 pm. Weekday rentals are subject to availability. Call 337-9191 to secure a rental. Visit the Recreation Centers Rental Fees for more information.

No alcohol or smoking is allowed in any park facility.

Tuesday and Thursday, 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM

Linwood Golden Age Club
Linwood Golden Age Club offers a variety of activities for persons age 55+. Activities include dances, cards, snacks, and entertainment. Membership is only $2 per year.

Golden Age Dance
Every Saturday 7:00 - 9:30 PM,
Enjoy live music and dance the night away. Admission fee is $2

Pitch Tournament
Tuesdays, 9:00 AM - 3:30 PM

Golden Age Club Business Meeting
Second Tuesday of each month. 10:30 AM

The Osage Golden Age Club also meets here on Monday from 9:00 am-3:30 pm.  There is No Dance.
