Activity Brochure Changes

Lotus Blossom Yoga - Youth (#149057 & 149058 - page 10) is for ages 7-10 and not ages 5-8 as listed.

All Spring Session Kripalu Yoga classes will start the week of March 26th and will be $26.

An additional Kripalu Yoga class has been scheduled for Tuesday 5:30-6:30 pm. Cost is $24 (course will not meet on the third Tuesday of January/February). Course number is 154800 

New Classes

Orchard Recreation Center offers a wide variety of recreation and education programming for all ages. Here is a small sample of some new classes that are being offered this Winter and Spring:

Little Leprechauns Holiday Workshop - Tots
It's time for the wearin' of the green! All little leprechauns attending will share the luck of the Irish through fun games such as a shamrock hunt and make a craft. Also learn to prepare some easy green treats that are magically delicious. Ages 3-5. (p. 8 in your Activity Guide)

Playtime for Toddlers - Tots
Toddlers can run, jump and play to their heart's content during this playtime. Parents must supervise their child while they play with toys, scooters, playground balls and other equipment. Fee is per child, free for the parent. (p. 9 in your Activity Guide)

Brownie Scout Badges - Youth
Fair Play: Learning how to play fair in sports.
Snacks: Making yummy snacks for family and friends.

Celebrate the Season Holiday Workshops - Youth
Have some fun for the holidays by creating a special project for friends and loved ones. Class dates correspond to the next upcoming holiday. See guide for details. (p. 14 in your Activity Guide)

Lotus Blossom Yoga - Youth
Children and parents will share a joyful yoga environment that encourages an energetic balance between excitement and attentiveness. Families will explore flow yoga, breathing exercises, partner and community poses, mantras/affirmations, visualization, and meditation. This course promotes patience and tolerance, while fostering unity and compassion. S.N.A.G. Golf - Youth
"Starting New at Golf" is a parent-youth class for ages 6-12. SNAG contains all of the elements of golf but in a modified form with its own simplified rules and terminology that adds fun to the learning and playing experience.  Falling somewhere between miniature golf and regulation golf, SNAG allows for full shots, pitching, chipping, and putting. The ball has a limited distance, with the average player launching it a maximum of 50 yards. It is also a training program for beginners' fun. (p. 12 in your Activity Guide)

Fundamentals of Drawing - Adult
What to draw? This class will cover the basics such as contour, shading and perspective and will give beginning and experienced artists something to think about. Instructed by City Arts. Supplies provided for first class, with supply list handed out on the first night of class. Ages 16+. (p. 25 in your Activity Guide)

Introduction to Vegetable Gardening - Adult
Growing your own vegetables is easy and fun. It is a great way to have family time while producing healthy food. Come and learn the basics in this four week class such as soil preparation, vegetable selection, timelines, and harvesting. Class price includes a Smart Pot container, soil, fertilizer, and a tomato plant. Presented by Johnson's Garden Center. (p. 22 in your Activity Guide)

Jewelry Making with Wire - Adult
Create unique handmade jewelry such as bracelets, necklaces and earrings using basic wire work techniques. Also learn to make your own ear wires, hook and eye closures and more. Instructed by City Arts. Student supplies a spool of 20-guage copper wire and beading/pendants. Ages 16+. (p. 25 in your Activity Guide)

Lawn Care 101 - Adult
Learn how to maintain a beautiful lawn without the overuse of chemicals.  Class will discuss overseeding, aerating, weed prevention and control, soil PH, fertilizing and watering requirements. This class will help you turn your lawn into a lush carpet of grass this spring. Presented by Johnson's Garden Center. (p. 22 in your Activity Guide)

Weight Loss 101 - Adult
Learn about what you need to do to rev up your metabolism and burn calories. You will gain knowledge on proper form and function of resistance and cardio machines. Nutritional information will help you balance calories. Class includes fitness center membership. (p. 17 in your Activity Guide)

Forever Fit - Active Adult
A low impact fitness class which promotes increased strength, range of movement, balance and flexibility with the use of hand-held weights and elastic tubing with handles. A chair is used for seated and/or standing support. (p. 26 in your Activity Guide)

Stretch and Tone - Active Adult
Get energized! Stay active and improve your muscle tone and flexibility. (p. 26 in your Activity Guide)

Instructional Classes
We offer a variety of classes for all ages. Check the current 2012 Winter Spring Activities Guide for all Recreation Center classes.

Fitness Center
The Orchard Fitness Center features 14 cardio machines, cardio theater, and a weights area. Lockers are also available. We have an ACE certified personal trainer on staff available for private, couple and group sessions at nominal fees. View the Flyer for Hours and Admission.

Youth Activities

After School Playground Activities
Mondays-Thursdays, 3:10-5:30 PM
Fridays, 3:10-5:00 PM

Youth can enjoy a variety of recreation programming each day after school. Special sports leagues, game room activities, and other games are available throughout the year. Fee is $10 per semester.

In-Service Camps
During USD 259 district-wide inservice days and Spring break,
7:00 AM - 6:00 PM

2012 Schedule: January 3; February 21; March 15 & 16; March 19-23; April 6 & 30th.
Youth ages 6-13 can sign up and participate in these licensed/supervised day camps. Cost is $15 per day - per child. Program includes an AM & PM snack, organized activities including gym games, crafts, board games, movies and more. Participant must bring their own lunch and drink. Enrollment is limited to 30 campers on a first-come first-serve basis. All required paperwork can be picked up in the office.

Senior Activities

Golden Age Club
The Golden Age Club offers a variety of activities for men and women 55+. Yearly membership is $2. Pitch tournaments are held every Thursday beginning at 9:30 a.m. and it costs $.25 to play. Birthday Lunches are celebrated on the 3rd Thursday of each month; please bring a covered dish if you would like to attend. Dances are held every Friday from 7-9:30 p.m. Dance to live music for only $2!

Rental Information

Rooms at Orchard Recreation Center are available for rental in 4-hour periods. Visit the Recreation Centers Rental Fees for more information.

No alcohol or smoking is allowed in any park facility.
