To this point in time, no information has been collected on trail usage on Wichita-Sedgwick County trails. In order to provide the community with statistics and facts concerning area trail use and to better enable community representatives to make informed decisions concerning pathways, the following study of Wichita recreation trails has been conducted. With a current total of approximately 85 miles of funded and existing recreation trails in the City of Wichita and approximately 105 miles throughout all of Sedgwick County, now is a critical time for examination of trail use in the area, especially with the current opportunity to expand the trail network with federal dollars. This study will serve as a baseline, or comparison, for future recreation trail use monitoring activities. Caution should be taken in applying this data to the citywide trail network. The information provided here is intended to capture trail use at specific locations on specific days. A variety of factors, weather being the most prominent, could affect trail use from day to day and season to season.
