A message from your Community Policing Officer!

Hello to all 15 beat residents.  This is a message from your community policing officer, Officer Darrin Williams #2174.  I am the community Policing Officer to 15 beat.  In case you did not know three neighborhood associations fall within the 15 beat boundaries.  The three neighborhood associations are LaPlacita, Orchard Park, and Orchard Breeze Neighborhood Associations.  LaPlacita boundaries are East of West Street to Zoo Boulevard and Central North to Zoo Boulevard.  Orchard Park boundaries are from Hoover East to West Street and Central North to Zoo Boulevard.  Orchard Breeze  boundaries are from Central South to Maple and from Hoover East to West Street.  Additionally, 15 beat lies within three Wichita districts.  District VI is from I-235 to the East and North of Central.  District IV is East of I-235 and South of Central.  District V is the area West of I-235.  I have placed a map of 15 beat below so you can visually see the boundaries.

In this newsletter and future newsletters I will be giving information and events in reference to each neighborhood association.  Also, you will be able to email or call me with questions, comments, or concerns.  I can then post these questions, comments, or concerns as someone else in the neighborhood may have the same question or concern.

Wichita Police Department Citizen Advisory

It appears to be that time of year again where thieves have been burglarizing garages late at night that are left open.  Remember when you go to bed, don't make it easy for them to take your belongings.  Make sure all of your windows are closed and locked.  Make sure all doors are closed and locked.   Also make sure that all of your garage doors are closed and locked if need be and last but not least, if you have a garage door opener that you keep in your car make sure you remonve it from your car if it will be outside over night.  This is a common way to have things stolen and then give the burglars an easy way to get back into your home at a later date.  Also be sure to lock your doors and windows when you are not at home.

It has also come about that car larcenies are on the rise.  Please remember to remove all expensive items from your vehicle overnight.  This includes GPS units, purses, wallets, and loose money.  The more that these things are left in the cars the more that it will attract thieves to come back to the area.  Please don't give them incentive to come to our area.  Thanks again.

We have also had a large amount of air conditioners stolen from the back of homes in the past few months.  Please make sure that everyone is putting a pad lock on the metal box that houses the power.  Doing this will slow down the suspects and also cause them to make more noise as they attempt to remove the lock.  The other things that you can do to protect yourself is to register your air conditioners.  Most of the companies now will give you a longer warranty if you register the item.

Also on a final note this month our beat will slightly be changing due to a beat reorganization.  Pictures to be uploaded as soon as availible.
