History of the Wichita Police Department

The history of any organization, especially one whose existence spans over 130 years, must be a subjective account of identifiable events.  For the men and women who have ties to Wichita's wonderful Police Department, be it through family member, dedicated personal service, friends or acquaintances their memories embody many experiences or hold exciting stories which have escaped the scribe's pen.  When our City was young, men of vision labored through tough times to establish our identity and prosperity while the Police Department worked to keep the peace. Not an easy task in those days.

-Detective Roger Williamson
Author, Wichita Police Department 1871-2000
