The following statistics were provided by various resources

  • Acts of Domestic Violence occur every 15 seconds in the United States.

  • Women are more likely to be the victims of crime in their own home, at the hands of someone they know, than on the streets.

  • About 50% of all couples experience at least one violent incident in their relationship. Approximately 25% experience violence regularly.

  • Violence occurs in families of all races, genders, religions, social status, income levels and professions.

  • 95% of domestic violence incidents are perpetrated by men.

  • Every year, an estimated 2-4 million women of all races and classes are battered by a spouse or intimate partner in the U.S. alone. 4,000 are killed.

  • Battering causes more injury to women than rapes, automobile accidents, and muggings combined.

  • 65% of young men in the U.S. incarcerated for homicide are there because they killed the person who was beating up their mothers.
