Narcotics Detection Canine Unit

Detective Bryan Martin & Rex

Currently the Wichita Police Department has five K-9 teams that operate throughout the City conducting highway interdictions, assisting with drug investigations, and helping at area schools with educational activities.

The illegal use of drugs has a tremendous negative impact on our community and requires our due diligence.  The violence associated with illegal drugs can and will continue to devastate families and our community.

The police canines have proven to be good partners to law enforcement in the ongoing efforts to slow drug trafficking.  The units have helped seize drugs such as cocaine, crack-cocaine, marijuana, methamphetamines, and others.  During the past two years, 483 pounds of marijuana, 97 pounds of cocaine and 19 pounds of methamphetamine have beeen detected and seized with the aid of the K-9 Teams' effort.
