 Clandestine Laboratory Enforcement Team

Clan Lab Truck

The Clandestine Laboratory Enforcement Team (CLET) was formed in the fall of 2000 in response to an ever-increasing number of methamphetamine labs being found in the City of Wichita. The team currently consists of 9 Detectives and 3 Supervisors.  All team members are either DEA or KBI Methamphetamine Lab Certified. Members attend year around training and are re-certified on a yearly basis.

The new Clandestine Laboratory response vehicle was purchased in 2003 through a grant from the United States government to combat the increasing number of clandestine laboratories being located in this region.  This vehicle was designed by and manufactured to the specifications set forth by members of the CLET. This vehicle has been recognized as one of the premiere Clandestine Response vehicles in the nation.

CLET members are responsible for responding to the scene of all suspected clandestine laboratories.  If a response turns out to be a clandestine laboratory they are responsible for the processing of the crime scene, evidence collection and disposal of hazardous chemicals.  They are also responsible for the subsequent follow up investigation and charging of all suspects involved in the illegal manufacture and distribution of methamphetamine with the cooperation of state and federal prosecutors.

CLET members conduct Methamphetamine Awareness training with local retailers and promote the Meth Watch Program in conjunction with KDHE (Kansas Department of Health and Environment. CLET members also provide Methamphetamine Awareness presentations to community groups and area schools. If your group is interested in having a presentation on clandestine methamphetamine laboratories you may contact Lt. Scott Heimerman at (316) 268-4171 or by email at SHeimerman@wichita.gov.
