Operation Identification
Operation Identification is designed to discourage burglary and theft from homes and businesses. By marking your property with an easily traced identification number, you can help the Wichita Police Department solve crimes and increase your chances of recovering property that is normally difficult trace back to an owner. |
|
How does Operation Identification Work?
-
Engrave your Kansas driver's license number--including the letters "KS"-- on your property.
-
The Crime Prevention Unit of the Wichita Police Department will loan you an electric engraver to mark your valuables. Their offices are located on the fourth floor of City Hall, 455 N. Main. You may also obtain an engraver at the following locations:
-
Identify your property as conspicuously as possible without defacing it. It is also wise to engrave your number in an inconspicuous spot for added security.
-
When engraving, hold the tool straight up and down, not at a slant. Practice using the engraver before you mark your property.
-
Items which cannot be engraved (watches, jewelry, silver, crystal, china and antiques) should be photographed using a 35mm camera.
-
Upon returning the engraver, the Wichita Police Department will provide you with Operation Identification stickers to place on your doors and windows. |
