  Tattoos/Brands must not show while on duty in uniform or civilian clothing regardless of what the tattoo/brand is or represents.  Employees having tattoos/brands they cannot conceal will be required to wear authorized long sleeve shirts and pants to cover the tattoo/brand.  Facial, head and neck tattoos are not permitted in uniform or civilian attire while on duty.

• How many weeks is the training academy?

• How many questions are on the aptitude test and how long will the test take?

• What specialty positions are available as a Wichita Police Officer?

• Is a college degree required? No (but is highly recommended)

• How long does it take to complete the application process? Varies from 3 to 6 months

• If I am not selected for an academy class, how long will I be considered for future academy classes? 1 Year from the date of your aptitude test

• Does the Wichita Police Department accept lateral transfers? No

• If I do not pass the aptitude test how soon may I retest? 30 Days

• If applicant fails the aptitude test a second time, they must wait one year to reapply.

• What shifts do patrol officer’s work?

  1st Shift
  From 7:00 AM To 5:00 PM

  2nd Shift
  From 11:00 AM To 9:00 PM

  3rd Shift
  From 5:00 PM To 3:00 AM

  4th Shift
  From 9:00 PM To 7:00 AM
