A Police Officer’s basic duty is the protection of life and/or property through enforcement of laws. Responsibilities include:

Calls for service
-
Preventing crime
-
Conducting preliminary investigations and collecting evidence.

Making arrests and taking prisoners to jail
-
Issuing citations
-
Investigating traffic crashes
-
Writing police reports
-
Assisting the public.
-
Participating in Community Policing activities
-
Interviewing people with complaints or inquiries, taking statements and tends to proper disposition of the information or directs them to proper authorities.

Appearing in court to present evidence and/or testify as required.
-
May administer basic first aid.
-
Working with other City departments as well as other local, state, and federal entities.
-
The work may require occasional physical exertion under adverse circumstance and may involve an element of personal danger.

An officer may apply for duty in specialized assignments. Acceptance is based on the education, experience, training and evaluation of the officer seeking the special assignment. Assignments include:

K-9
Explosive Ordnance Unit
Air Section
SWAT Unit
Honor Guard
Mounted Unit
School Resource
Community Affairs
School Liaison
Gang Unit
