Displayed below is a list of definitions for terms referenced in Acceptable/Nonacceptable Materials.
According to K.S.A. 65-3402 (dd), "'construction-related packaging' means small quantities of packaging wastes that are generated in the construction, remodeling or repair of structures and related appurtenances. 'Construction-related packaging' does not include packaging wastes that are generated at retail establishments selling construction materials, chemical containers generated from any source or packaging generated during maintenance of existing structures."
Non-friable asbestos-containing materials have a binder that holds the asbestos fibers within a solid matrix and will not allow asbestos fibers to release easily, unless mishandled, damaged, or in badly worn or weathered condition.
This material should be:
- transported wet (covered with a mist spray to suppress dust); or
- transported with a tarp cover; and
- covered immediately at the landfill.
Friable asbestos-containing materials (ACM) will easily release fibers when crushed. Only Kansas Department of Health & Environment (KDHE) licensed asbestos abatement contractors and certified asbestos workers can remove and dispose of friable asbestos-containing materials. For friable asbestos a Special Waste Disposal Authorization issued by the Brooks Landfill inspectors is needed. Call (316) 722-9410.
A process by which KDHE allows a disposal site to receive certain types of waste, which would otherwise not be acceptable for disposal due to their properties or characteristics.
