Midtown Neighborhood Master Plan for Transportation, Streetscape, & Stormwater

Our Mission

The City of Wichita is working with residents and neighborhood leaders in Midtown to create master plans for future transportation, streetscape, and stormwater management improvements in the area bounded by Murdock on the south, 18th Street on the north, Santa Fe on the east, and the Little Arkansas River on the west. The city and its design team are drawing from the ideas outlined in the 2004 Midtown Neighborhood plan in creating recommendations for the area. The master plans for transportation, streetscape, and stormwater and drainage will help guide city and neighborhood leaders in planning for improvements over the short term and long term.

Specifically, the master plans will outline recommendations in the following categories:

Transportation
Including the design and layout of streets, bike and walking paths and trails, and sidewalks in and around Midtown.

Streetscape
Includes designs and concepts to improve the appearance and visual appeal of the neighborhood, including landscaping, lighting, public art, signage and wayfinding, and other beautification strategies.

Stormwater and Drainage
Recommendations will include improvements and strategies designed to relieve flooding and drainage issues in and around the Midtown neighborhood. The city and the design team in particular are working to identify stormwater improvements that will improve the neighborhood's environmental sustainability.
