Watersheds

Floodplain Task Force

In 2005, the City Manager and the County Manager established a task force to investigate floodplain development to reduce future flooding.  The Task Force researched information regarding watersheds, flood zones, and best management practices of other communities with similar concerns.  After deliberation, the Floodplain Management Task Force determined short-term, mid-term, and long-term initiatives should be established according to a variety of factors.  To see the complete report developed by the Task Force, go to Planning > Floodplain Management Task Force.

Sedgwick County Stormwater Advisory Board (SMAB)

The successor of the Floodplain Task Force is the SMAB, which meets monthly on the first Wednesday of each month at the Sedgwich County Public Works facility.  (in development...)

RiverCity WRAPS

The City of Wichita and Sedgwick County submitted a Water Restoration And Protection Strategy (WRAPS)  funding request to KDHE in 2006.  KDHE authorized funding in 2007 with project completion expected in 2009. The City was granted an extension in 2009.  On August 7, 2009, there was a kick-off press release.  During this Development Phase of WRAPS, the City also sought bid proposals to hire a consultant to assist staff.  In June 2009, Geotechnical Services Inc., was hired to assist the City in identifying and selecting stakeholders of the Lower Arkansas River watershed.  Through the Development Phase there have been three main meetings, six District Advisory Board meetings and several mini presentations.  The Stakeholder Leadership Team (SLT) was formed and consists of 35 members.  These members are from the EPA, KDHE, the City of Wichita, the Council District Advisory Board, the Sierra Club, the Arkansas River Coalition, the Ark River Task Force and consultants.  The SLT has the responsibility of the next three phases of the project: Assessment, Planning and Implementation.  For more information on this program visit their website, www.Wichitawraps.org.

Drainage Studies & Construction Plan Records

Are you looking for public and private stormwater records?  Try one of the two following sites.

If you are interested in having access to Engineering design plans for your subdivision including public streets, storm sewers, detention ponds and other public infrastructure, the information can be accessed via this link Public Works

For drainage studies and reports including subdivision drainage plans and master grading plans, the information can be accessed via this link  Stormwater

To search for the appropriate records, enter the subdivision name in the Addition Name Field.  If you do not know the full name of the addition, the web page will filter all additions with a key word (i.e., if you enter "Fox", you will get Fox Ridge, Fox Point, etc.).   This web-based document management system does not support wild cards such as * or %.
