Fleet & Facilities
The Fleet & Facilities Division is divided into two sections, the Fleet Maintenance and Facilities Maintenance. Below is a description of the services each section provides: Fleet Maintenance Section City vehicles inside repair facility Division purchases, repairs and maintains vehicles and equipment. As the name suggests, this section maintains most City vehicles (excluding large buses and Airport units) and equipment, from patrol cars to street sweepers and road graders. A total of over 2,800 pieces of major equipment is included. Staffing is provided 24 hours a day, 5 days a week. Weekend coverage is provided by a combination of on-call staff and service contractors. The 2007 budget for the division is $12,460,160. Central Stores, a section of Fleet Maintenance, procures and issues parts and materials to Fleet Maintenance garages and to operating departments. Fuel management is also a function of this division. The City of Wichita consumes about 958,000 gallons of diesel fuel and 778,000 gallons of unleaded fuel each year. The fuel powers some 2,700 vehicles and numerous pieces of small equipment and emergency generators. Fuel is dispensed through thirty-five locations in and around Wichita. Facilities Maintenance Section Old Town Farm and Art Market Facilities Section provides custodial services, repair and maintenance for many City buildings including: City Hall Central Maintenance Facility Mid-America All-Indian Center Wichita Public Library Wichita Art Museum Wichita-Sedgwick County Historical Museum Century II Convention Center Sedgwick County Health Department Lawrence-Dumont Stadium Park facilities Botanica State Office Building Old Town Farm & Art Market The Cooperative Labor Program is also managed within the Division. The City’s 260 buildings include community and recreation centers, park shelter buildings and restrooms, fire stations, police substations, maintenance buildings and libraries. The Division also participates in the management, specification writing, and administration of building construction and major building maintenance projects. The Facilities Section also oversees the Cooperative Labor Program, which provides transportation and supervision of inmates from the Winfield Correctional Facility. The City Work Program, similar to the Cooperative Labor Program, allows non-violent offenders from the City’s Municipal Court system the option of supervised community service work in-lieu of paying the imposed fine.
