Natural Resources

Why is recycling important to you as a citizen?

  • Saves natural resources.

  • Saves energy. For example, recycled aluminum takes 95% less energy than new aluminum from bauxite.

  • Saves clean water and air.

  • Saves landfill space.

  • Saves money and creates jobs. The recycling process creates jobs (more than landfills). Recycling helps to avoid disposal costs. In some cases, it is the least expensive solid waste management solution for municipalities. In the long run this will save you tax dollars.

What can I recycle?

Please refer to the Sedgwick County Department of Environmental Resources' Recycling Guide for more information.
