 The Transit Center in downtown Wichita. | Transit Services is committed to meeting the needs and priorities of the citizens of Wichita with the most courteous, affordable, reliable, and economical public transportation possible.
Our goals are simply to provide the most cost-efficient and effective service within established budget parameters, the most convenient service possible, and improve passenger amenities and technologies within available capital funding.
The transit system currently operates 51 buses (all ADA compliant) and 26 wheelchair lift vans on 17 fixed routes, 17 demand-response paratransit routes operated by the department, and rides purchased under contract from 6 social services agencies.
Annually, Transit Services carried over two million passengers on our fixed route bus service, and over 320,800 disabled passengers on our paratransit vans.
There are 23 administrative positions and 107 employees which are represented by the Teamsters Union. Executive management is provided through a contract with First Transit, Inc.

Transit Services staff members provide daily administration of the transit system. The divisions are listed below:
Administration Providing budgetary and accounting/payroll support, as well as personnel functions.
Customer Services Providing marketing, Transit Center services, trolleys and administrative support.
Maintenance Providing vehicle and maintenance support.
Special Services Providing paratransit services, rideshare and planning.
Operations Providing on-road supervision and all bus and van drivers.
