Water Conservation

Water...the liquid we need to live. It's the most valuable resource in the world! Vital to each of us every day.

For example, we use it for:

  • Home - for drinking, bathing, cooking and cleaning.

  • Work - to grow food, provide power, heating, cooling, and to control fire.

  • Play - for swimming, fishing, boating, and gardening.

Pioneers in wagonIn the good old days, Wichitans used water carefully and sparingly. Water had to be carried from shallow wells, cisterns or nearby streams. No one wanted to make the trip more often than necessary so little water was used.

Today, with the turn of a tap, an abundance of high quality, inexpensive water is available instantly. Because of this convenience, many of us have formed wasteful habits of "running" water without using it.

Tomorrow, conservative consumption will be the way of life. (Be ready for tomorrow; you can reduce water waste without reducing your lifestyle.) Between 1980 and 2000, America's water use may more than double! In some areas there are already shortages today, so we must learn how to conserve water now in order to avoid severe shortages in the future.

If you really enjoy having water to use, use your brain (which, by the way, is 75% water.)
