Turn Off Water Promptly

These water shutoffs take the nuisance out of turning off water:

Moisture Sensors

Soil Sensor (Tensiometer)Rainfall CollectorMoisture sensors are the ultimate automatic devices for controlling irrigation and are especially valuable for commercial or large residential yards. Tensiometers serve as "thermostats for the soil," sensing its moisture levels, while other sensors collect actual rainfall in a container. Both kinds signal manual or automatic systems to turn off during rainfall and to resume programmed watering when moisture is needed again. With a moisture sensor, needless watering is conveniently eliminated.

Timers

Watching a sprinkler may seem like a waste of time. But precious water and money are wasted by a sprinkler that is forgotten or ignored. To make "babysitting" your sprinkler easier, try an automatic timer.

Timers that keep track of your watering either by the minute/hour or by the gallon are available, in models that range from simple to complex and from inexpensive to very costly.

Remember, timed controllers don't think for themselves. They are designed to do only what you tell them.

Fingertip Shutoff Devices

Fingertip shutoff devices will save you thousands of steps and/or thousands of gallons of water by allowing you to shut off the hose, sprinkler, or car wash brush where you stand instead of letting water run while you return to the faucet or perform other tasks.
