Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Facility

Does the City of Wichita Environmental Services operate a HHW Facility?

In the past, the City of Wichita operated a HHW Facility, located at 2305 E. 57th Street South. However, Sedgwick County took over responsibilities for Household Hazardous Waste disposal, on January 1, 2002. The facility in south Wichita was closed when the new HHW facility opened.

What is the Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Facility?

The HHW Facility is a place where Sedgwick County residents can safely dispose of old chemicals and household hazardous waste free of charge. It offers a way to get rid of old chemicals and materials, preventing them from getting into our rivers and streams and polluting the environment. Information regarding the storage, handling, and disposal of hazardous materials can be found at the Sedgwick County Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Facility website.

What are the proper steps to disposing of expired or unused Pharmaceuticals (PPCPs)?

Research has found medications and their byproducts in ground and surface waters, suggesting that disposal of old or unused medications down the toilet is not a completely effective way of preventing contamination. Review the steps to the proper disposal of pharmaceuticals.

Remember, for more information, visit the Sedgwick County Environmental Resources website, call (316) 660-7464, or visit the Sedgwick County Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Facility website.
