A lifelong Kansan, Janet L. Miller was first elected to the Wichita City Council in April 2009. She was reelected to her second term in 2013 and is currently serving a one-year term as Vice Mayor. In addition to her work on the City Council, Janet serves on the boards of Botanica – The Wichita Gardens, Wichita Downtown Development Corporation (WDDC), Old Town Association, Wichita Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (WAMPO), and the advisory board of Raise My Head Foundation.

Vice Mayor Miller has had significant involvement in a number of Wichita initiatives, including the Task Force to End Chronic Homelessness, Project Downtown Master Plan, Botanica's garden expansions, public transit improvement, Old Town safety and security initiatives, and Bicycle/Pedestrian/Park master plans. She is an ardent advocate for thriving neighborhoods, engaging diverse communities, and fostering a vibrant quality of life and local economy that attracts creative young professionals and a high quality workforce.

A graduate of Kansas State University with a BS in Education, Janet began her career as a middle school teacher with certifications in mathematics and English. After teaching, her professional career evolved into marketing, communications, and administration and has included work with Mid American Credit Union, Exploration Place, Kansas Health Foundation, and Wichita Area Sexual Assault Center. Over the course of her career, she became active in her neighborhood association and civically engaged in the community, which ultimately led her to run for City Council. She and her husband, retired Kansas state representative Nile Dillmore, live in Historic Midtown Wichita.

A strong neighborhood is a valuable tool in maintaining healthy communities. Neighborhood organizations bring together people of diverse backgrounds, who share common concerns for their safety, properties, homes and community interests. Neighborhood organizations help City staff and elected officials identify and resolve issues and concerns in a particular area. There is strength in numbers - having a unified voice can make a difference.

An HOA is an actual business entity and normally is organized as a "Not for profit" organization. It is subject to all of the same filings that other nonprofit organizations are subject to including annual reports, tax returns and business classification. Many residents are unaware of the requirements of time and governance when they volunteer to serve their association, which may include notifying a neighbor that their dues check bounced.
