A lifelong Kansan and 26-year resident of District 6, Janet Miller was elected to the City Council in April 2009. Since her election, she has had significant involvement in Visioneering Wichita, the Project Downtown Master Plan, Botanica's Children's Garden, NOMAR International Market, and the Bicycle Master Plan.

Prior to being elected, she was involved in many community activities serving on the board of Historic Midtown Citizens Association (HMCA), the District 6 Advisory Board, and as president of the Wichita Board of Park Commissioners. She played central roles in the strategic master plan for Wichita's Parks, Recreation, and Open Spaces (PROS); update of the Wichita/Sedgwick County Cultural Arts Plan Update; Visioneering Regional Recreation Alliance; and the Wichita/Sedgwick County Plan to End Chronic Homelessness.

Councilwoman Miller is an ardent advocate for the NOMAR International Market District, a vibrant downtown, and thriving, diverse neighborhoods. Much of her work focuses on diverse neighborhood interests, sustainability, cultural arts, and economic development. Today she serves on the boards of NOMAR Community Development Corporation, Wichita Downtown Development Corporation, and Botanica - The Wichita Gardens.

Janet earned her BS in Education from Kansas State University and graduated with English and Mathematics certifications. After teaching, her professional career evolved into marketing, communications, and administration. Along the way she became active in her neighborhood association and civically engaged in the community, which ultimately led her to run for City Council.

Janet and her husband of 22 years, Nile Dillmore, live in Historic Midtown

District VI Advisory Board

District VI Advisory Board meets the 1st Monday of the month (3rd Wednesday of the month is optional) at Evergreen Recreation Center. Meetings start at 6:30pm.

2017 District VI Advisory Board Meeting Schedule

District VI Coffee is held on the 4th Saturday of the month. These gatherings are a chance to discuss local city projects/issues, provide your input and ask questions. We meet from 9am to 10:30am at Downtown YMCA (402 N Market St). Coffee and pastries are available for purchase. Hope to see you there!

A strong neighborhood is a valuable tool in maintaining healthy communities. Neighborhood organizations bring together people of diverse backgrounds, who share common concerns for their safety, properties, homes and community interests. Neighborhood organizations help City staff and elected officials identify and resolve issues and concerns in a particular area. There is strength in numbers - having a unified voice can make a difference.

An HOA is an actual business entity and normally is organized as a "Not for profit" organization. It is subject to all of the same filings that other nonprofit organizations are subject to including annual reports, tax returns and business classification. Many residents are unaware of the requirements of time and governance when they volunteer to serve their association, which may include notifying a neighbor that their dues check bounced.
