Mayor's Youth Council
To provide Wichita youth with the opportunity to weigh in on community issues and learn about city government.
The Mayor’s Youth Council is a diverse group of 48 Wichita high school students. Students on the council elect a youth Mayor, Vice-Mayor, 7 Committee Chairs, City Manager, Clerk of Council and Sergeant at Arms. The remaining members represent the General Council and each belongs to one committee. There are seven committees.

Academic Achievement The committee is responsible for producing information and materials to help students achieve academic excellence.
Career Preparation The committee identifies early employment opportunities and highlights different careers for members of the Mayor’s Youth Council and other youth. The committee also prepares and provides workshops to teach career skills (i.e., computer training, presentation techniques, communication skills, etc.).
Community Services and Support The committee is responsible for coordinating, planning and organizing community service events.
Exploration The committee is responsible for researching and exploring a delegated issue in order to provide more information or detail about the topic to members of the Mayor’s Youth Council.
Leadership The committee identifies leadership and teamwork building activities for the Mayor’s Youth Council.
Social and Special Projects The committee is responsible for coordinating, planning and organizing social events that the Mayor’s Youth Council holds throughout the year.
Fundraising The committee is responsible for fundraising activities and events that benefit the Mayor’s Youth Council’s mission and goals.
