Mayor's Youth Council

Mission

To provide Wichita youth with the opportunity to weigh in on community issues and learn about city government.

Overview

The Mayor’s Youth Council (MYC), a group of 32 high school students from the Wichita community, represents a valuable resource in the city- its youth!

Accomplishing its mission through volunteerism and civic participation, members organize an annual legislative agenda, volunteer events, charitable giving campaigns, drug prevention activities and produce MYC in the ICT, a television show.  Through its work, members learn about local government, develop leadership skills and gain the tools to become engaged citizens throughout their lives.

From among themselves the student members elect a Mayor, Vice-Mayor, Manager, Clerk of Council and Committee Chairs.  Members not elected as an officer represent the General Council and serve on one of the six standing committees.  General Council and Committee meetings are held monthly, with numerous events and work days taking place throughout each month.

Meeting Information

The Mayor's Youth Council meets on the second Monday of each month in the first floor board room of City Hall.
