The City Council approved the Douglas and Broadway CID on September 27, 2011 to facilitate the renovation of the historic Douglas Building into a 117 room boutique hotel. The 2% additional sales tax will be used to reimburse a portion of the developer's costs of renovating the building and converting it into a hotel. CID sales tax will be collected for up to 22 years or until a maximum amount of $2,560,000 is collected. The Ambassador Hotel Wichita opened in December 2012.
