Food handler cards are required for all persons working or volunteering in a food service establishment in Wichita (Chapter 7.20 of the Municipal Code of the City of Wichita). Other cities or counties may have differing requirements.
Food Handler Classes are held on the first and third Saturday of each month at 8:30 AM and 12:30 PM, and on the first and third Monday of each month at 12:30 PM and 6:00 PM. Also held on Monday will be a Spanish class at 8:30 AM. In the event that a holiday falls on a regularly scheduled class day, the class will be moved to that day in the following week. This will NOT change the other regularly scheduled class.
Classes are held in the auditorium at the City of Wichita Office of Environmental Health, 1900 East 9th Street North, Wichita, KS 67214. Parking is available in the lot east of our building, and you can access the auditorium via the east entry door by the flagpole.
Please do not bring children under the age of 6.
Students need only attend one session. A class is approximately 2 hours in length, and students will receive a Food Handler Card at the conclusion of the class. There is no fee for taking the class. However, there is a $2.00 fee for replacement cards.
