Neighborhood Night Out Event FAQs
Q: What is the Neighborhood Night Out Event?
A: The Neighborhood Night Out Event features multiple parties that take place in neighborhoods across Wichita on the same evening. The parties are voluntary and are hosted by citizens. They are designed to help citizens get to know their neighbors.
Q: When will the event be held?
A: The Neighborhood Night Out Event will be Tuesday, August 9th. We suggest a time of 5:30-9 pm. The citizens hosting the parties will determine the exact time and location.
Q: Why should I participate?
A: This is a fun event designed to help you meet other residents in your neighborhood as well as members of the Wichita Police Department (WPD) officers and Wichita Fire Department (WFD) who serve your area. Knowing your neighbors can promote safety and prevent crime in your area.
Q: Do I need to register my party?
A: Yes, every party must be registered in order to be a part of the event. At the end of the registration deadline, a list of every neighborhood party will be compiled and sent to the Wichita City Council, Wichita Fire Department and the Wichita Police Department.
Q: How do I register my party?
A: Visit wichitapolice.com, click on the Forms tab and select the Neighborhood Night Out Registration Form. http://wichita.gov/Government/Departments/WPD/Pages/default.aspx.
Q: Does my party have to follow a certain theme?
A: No, the citizens hosting the party will determine the size and type of party it will be. Large or small, potluck, block parties, neighborhood cleanups, barbeques and ice cream socials are a few ideas.
Q: How can I promote the party in my neighborhood?
A: We suggest you create a flyer for the party to promote it and provide the details associated with your party. Most Neighborhood Associations have monthly meetings and you may be able to have your party promoted during that time.
Q: Will the City fund my party?
A: No, the City will not provide funding for these parties. You can check with your Neighborhood Association to see if it will provide funding.
Q: How can I get City Council, WFD and WPD to attend my party?
A: They will try to attend as many parties as possible throughout the night but there is no guarantee they will have time to attend all of the parties. They will only visit registered parties so please make sure to register.
Q: If my neighborhood does not have a registered party, may I attend a different one in another part of Wichita?
A: Yes, but the idea behind the event is to get to know the members of your neighborhood. If you don’t currently have a registered neighborhood party, we suggest you create and register your own.
