Event highlights community service and honors MLK on his holiday
Low- to moderate-income residents can have their taxes prepared for free on Monday at Atwater Neighborhood City Hall, 2755 E. 19th.
The City of Wichita and partnering organizations are sponsoring “The 2010 Free Tax Service Kickoff,” which will feature a service resource fair that honors Martin Luther King Jr., a free lunch and several speakers including Mayor Carl Brewer and Councilwoman Lavonta Williams.
Event partners include AmeriCorps Financial Support Services, Inter-Faith Ministries and the Cerebral Palsy Research Foundation. Following is a schedule of events:
- 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. - Resource fair and taxes preparation;
- 10 a.m. to 11a.m. - Kickoff ceremony with Mayor Brewer;
- Noon to 1 p.m. - Free lunch provided by Cargill Inc. and Planet Sub;
- 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. - Wrap up of resource fair and tax preparation.
To have taxes prepared, participants must bring proof of identification, social security cards and an earnings document. Participants must also know birthdates for dependants and need a bank account routing number and other information for direct deposit. More documentation may be required for certain tax returns.
