The 3rd annual Bob Martz Memorial Golf Tournament has been scheduled for the afternoon of May 21 at Auburn Hills Public Golf Course, 443 S. 135th St. West. Early registration is encouraged based on capacity turnout the past two years.
The tournament commemorates the service of Councilmember Bob Martz, who died in office on Jan. 17, 2007. He represented City Council District 5, which contains the Auburn Hill Golf Course. He was succeeded in office by the current District 5 Councilmember Jeff Longwell.
During his tenure in city government, Councilmember Martz was actively involved in the planning and creation of the Auburn Hills course. Golf Week Magazine has recognized the course as one the top five municipal courses in Kansas.
The golf tournament, a four-person scramble event, begins at 12 noon. Registration begins at 11 a.m. Proceeds from the tournament will be divided between the Bob Martz Scholarship Fund created by the Wichita Junior Golf Foundation and the Hook-A-Kid-On-Golf program.
Last year’s event was an unqualified success, attracting a capacity turnout and raising more than $3,000 for the Bob Martz Scholarship Fund and Youth Golf.
Individual tournament entry fees are $75 a person. Golf carts, lunch and gift bags will be provided, along with prizes for three flights of competition. Participants also receive a free round of golf at any of the five local public courses. A pizza party and awards presentation follows the tournament.
Hole sponsorships in support of the Wichita Junior Golf Foundation scholarship are also available at $250. Sponsors will be identified in tee-box signs and will also be recognized in video coverage of the event on City7, the City of Wichita cable channel.
