Wichita Mayor Carl Brewer and City Council members Sue Schlapp, Paul Gray, Lavonta Williams and Janet Miller will join local officials from across the country for the March 13-17 annual Congressional City Conference in Washington, D.C.

The Congressional City Conference is the annual legislative meeting of the National League of Cities, designed to inform municipal leaders about federal policy issues while providing an opportunity for city leaders to bring local concerns to their federal elected officials in Washington, DC.

Mayor Brewer serves on the NLC board of directors and also chairs the NLC Large Cities Committee. Other Council members serve on a variety of NLC committees.

While in the nation’s Capitol, the Wichita officials will also meet with the Kansas Congressional delegation and staff members, sharing the Wichita federal agenda that was endorsed by the City Council last month. Meetings are scheduled with U.S. Sens. Sam Brownback and Pat Roberts and U.S. Rep. Todd Tiahrt.

Council members  will also have the opportunity to hear keynote addresses by several Cabinet officials, as well as sharing strategies and insights with fellow local officials from around the country.

The National League of Cities is the nation’s oldest and largest organization devoted to strengthening and promoting cities as centers of opportunity, leadership and governance. NLC is a resource and advocate for 19,000 cities, towns and villages, representing more than 218 million Americans.

City Manager Robert Layton and Government Relations Manager Dale Goter will also accompany the Mayor and Council members.
