The City of Wichita is scheduled to replace the hardware core of its information technology network from 4 p.m. to midnight on Sunday.
During the scheduled upgrade work, the City’s technology services, including the City of Wichita web site wichita.gov, will be unavailable. However, phone service to City Hall and police and fire substations will remain available. Community emergency services will not be affected during the eight-hour shutdown.
The upgrade, which has been planned for more than a year, replaces an existing, eight-year-old operating network.
“The replacement system uses more advanced technology,” said Michael Mayta, the City’s Chief Information Officer. “It will improve the stability and reliability of the City’s core network.”
Mayta added that the technology upgrade is scheduled for late Sunday to have minimum impact on residents and City workers.
