The Wichita City Council on Tuesday elected District V Council member Jeff Longwell as Vice Mayor. Longwell succeeds Councilmember Jim Skelton, who served as Vice Mayor the past year. Skelton remains on the council representing District III.
Councilman Longwell has been representing District V on the west side of Wichita since 2007. Before serving on the Council, Longwell served on the Maize School Board for 12 years.
“Serving the public in my hometown is a privilege,” Longwell said. “The opportunity to serve as Vice Mayor magnifies that privilege exponentially. I look forward to increasing my responsibilities on the Council.”
Longwell serves on the Regional Economic Area Partnership (REAP) Executive Committee as well as chairs the REAP Legislative Committee. He is also a member of the Labor Management Committee, WAMPO, and The 20-year Special Assessment Committee.
Longwell and his wife, Susie, have a daughter, two sons, and a granddaughter. He will be officially sworn in as Vice Mayor at the City Council Meeting on Tuesday, April 20th.
