Frontier Airlines to Offer Jet Service

Frontier Airlines is scheduled to begin offering Wichita Mid-Continent Airport customers jet service on Monday, April 19. On the day that the airline begins flying the 76-seat, Embraer-170 regional jet, Frontier will also operate out of gate 1 on the east concourse.

Republic Airways, which now owns Frontier, has made the decision to discontinue Frontier’s Lynx Aviation subsidiary, which operates the Q400 turboprop aircraft. The transition to jet service will improve Frontier’s ability to compete in highly contested markets where the Q400 operates at a competitive disadvantage relative to jet service offered, airline officials said. Frontier’s main competitor in Wichita is United Airlines, which currently operates 4 regional jets and 1 Airbus 319 to Denver each day.

Media wishing to take pictures of the aircraft are invited to meet at the Safety Building on April 19 at 12:30 p.m. to be escorted onto the ramp. Media must call 946-4700 by 10:00 a.m. on Monday to let airport staff know if you will be in attendance.
