The Mayor’s Youth Council (MYC) banquet has been rescheduled for 7 p.m. on June 9 in the Visitors’ Center of Old Cowtown Museum, 1871 W. Sim Park Dr. The banquet was originally scheduled for May 10 but canceled due to a severe weather warning.
Media interested in attending the banquet should contact Emily Stephens at 262-2421 or EStephens@mirrorinc.org.
The MYC is a group of nearly 50 junior and senior high school students from Wichita area schools. MYC students participate in civic activities, volunteer events, government affairs, fund-raisers and other activities. They meet at least once a month as a group or as a member of one of seven MYC committees. They elect a MYC Mayor, Vice-Mayor, City Manager and other leaders.
The MYC mission is to provide Wichita youth with the opportunity to weigh in on policy matters and community issues. Wichita Mayor Carl Brewer established the MYC two years ago as a way to involve young people in local government and community service.
