The City of Wichita will soon begin reconstruction work on the bridge at 31st Street and Glenn. A related public information meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Monday at Osage Recreation Center, 2121 W. 31st Street South.
The $400,000 project is slated to begin on June 28, with a projected completion date of late fall. The bridge is essentially a large culvert that carries traffic over a drainage way. A recent inspection revealed structurally deficiencies.
During construction, 31st Street will be closed to through traffic, which will be detoured at Pawnee and at Meridian to Pawnee. The four corners of Glenn and 31st will also be closed during construction. The northeast corner of Glenn will re-open in August before the school year starts, to accommodate Kelly Elementary.
Access between 31st and 32nd Streets, east of the drainage way, will be temporarily provided through 32nd Street during construction. Snodgrass & Sons Construction Co., Inc. has been hired to do the work.
